I am looking at the use of virtual environments (computer simulations) to improve appropriate levels of trust between humans and autonomous machines, particularly self-driving vehicles.
To do this I will be looking at how to split tasks appropriately between the human and the machine, understanding the different metrics we can use to measure human machine trust, and creating what is known as a ‘shared situational awareness’ within a human machine team. My interest is in whether virtual environments can be used to create this shared situational awareness
