Gavin Byrne Pressure training and simulation methods are commonly used by coaches and sport psychologists to expose athletes to the demands of high-performance sport environments. Athletes that can manage these pressures whilst maintaining or improving their performance standard and consistency are believed to display resilience. This project will explore the underpinning psychological and physiological mechanisms by which resilience develops in elite athletes as a response to pressure training. The project benefits from partnerships between Heriot-Watt University and Oriam, Scotland’s National Performance Centre.
