Both genes and modifiable lifestyle factors affect how our cognitive abilities change as we get older. My research is looking at how physical activity benefits people who possess a genotype which increases their risk for cognitive decline and dementia. By looking at cognitive ability, brain structure and brain function, I hope to further our understanding of how exercise can help those at greater genetic risk to prevent or reduce age-related cognitive decline.
