Our Future Health

Date: 12 February 2025
Time: 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm
Location: In person

Promoting and protecting our health and wellbeing is one of the most important things we can do. In a session led by our Psychology students, you can explore how to engage with research that aims to promote healthy opportunities for all.

The session will focus on Our Future Health, a UK-based health research programme aiming to create one of the largest health databases in the world.

By bringing together health data from millions of volunteers, Our Future Health seeks to uncover new ways to prevent, detect and treat diseases earlier. Participants contribute by providing information about their health, lifestyle and samples like blood, helping researchers understand how genetics, environment and lifestyle affect health.

In the session, led by Freya Richards and supported by the Psychology Society, you will have an opportunity to learn more about the goals of Our Future Health and how to get involved. The session will also include a brief introduction to some of the research being led in the university’s Global Research Institute in Health and Care Technologies.

For those who register for the session, there will also be the opportunity to engage in interactive demonstrations, including our Immersive Suite that simulates a hospital setting.

The Our Future Health session will be held on Wednesday 12 February, at 13.15-14.00 in PG G01. To register, complete the form here https://forms.office.com/e/SvuRikD45r. The interactive demonstrations will follow from 14.00, and details about the options for that will follow.

The event is being hosted by Heriot-Watt’s Health and Care Technologies Global Research Institute. The institute’s goal is to deliver innovative, sustainable, and user-inspired solutions through a co-creative approach.
