Coping with Involuntary childlessness

Date: 24 October 2021
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Location: Online

Free webinar brought to you by Openminds Psychiatry, Counselling and Neuroscience Centre.

Do you have the desire to have a child, but due to personal circumstances, find yourself to be unable to achieve this dream? The experience of involuntary childlessness (or ‘childless not by choice’ [CNBC]) can have a huge impact on our self-identity, relationships, and sense of purpose.

This free, one-hour webinar will provide an educational exploration of the experiences of those who are CNBC, and what people can do to support themselves or their loved ones who are CNBC.

Our panel members will share their expertise, as well as their own lived experience of involuntary childlessness:

  • Sarah Roberts: Counsellor and Founder of The Empty Cradle (https://www.theemptycradle.com/home.html): a specialist counselling service for involuntary childless women. Sarah is also completing a Masters in Social Work (MSW) focusing on women’s grief and transition to permanent involuntary childlessness;
  • Michael Hughes: Michael is one-half of a childless marriage, and one-third of The Full Stop podcast (https://www.thefullstoppod.com/), whose aim is to highlight the issues experienced by the childless community, and to give hope to those on the path to accepting a life without children). He also blogs at the Married and Childless website (https://www.marriedandchildless.com/) on the male childless experience, and is one of the founders of The Clan of Brothers – a safe, virtual space for childless men.

Hosted by International Psychology Conference Dubai – IPCD committee member Kirin Hilliar, Psychologist at OpenMinds Centre, and Assistant Professor of Psychology at Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus.
